Having lived very happily with the design of my blog for a year, I decided it was time for a revamp. So going from the minimalistic lines designed by the very excellent Phil Swan, we move to the ‘retro’ feel created by xhtml/css master, Greg (Gregorious) Wood.

Just in case you didn’t know I am a Director of Erskine Design, a leading web design agency.
You would think therefore that it would be easy to sort a redesign of my blog. Well you are right, providing you follow the normal process and don’t try shortcuts!
As with all internal ‘Erskine Design’ projects we treated this redesign just like a ‘real’ client job. In this instance it was for a ‘client from hell’, that is of course, me!
The brief was simple. I wanted a retro feel that would sit comfortably with our diving exploration company’s Triton Oceanic brand, created by our pals and ace graphic design partners, Funnel Creative.
The new design featured more ‘diving’ imagery, in line with my obsession for all things sub-aqua plus a better visual representation of my more humorous side; illustrated by the contact page!
The work really illustrated to me the power of our preferred Content Management System, Expression Engine plus the benefits of ‘standards based design.’ This allowed the existing content to be used again, with little or no change, in the new site….
The process was painless (for me that is – very painful for Gregorious and Phil) and I am totally delighted with the result!
Thanks to the chaps, the beer is on me (as usual).

‘The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.’
